We're mostly all hypocrites! Hate it when one of our players does this but equally, admire the ambition and desire when someone forces the move to join us. Dog eat dog and all that. Putting a Red tinted spin on it they were probably messing him around hoping the issue would go away and he made sure it didn't. Takes quite a lot of guts that, good luck to him here!
Not to mention a fair bit of skill to effectively put in a transfer request, without actually submitting one. In fairness if anyone deserves a 'loyalty bonus' it's him.

Around November last year I joked with Lallana that he'd join LFC next season... and here he is.

Welcome.

The only English midfielder to complete more Premier League passes in the final third last term than A.Lallana (445) was J. Henderson (470).

Adam Lallana created 68 chances in the Premier League last season, more than any other English player.

Adam Lallana completed 70 take-ons in the Premier League last season, the same amount as Oscar & Mesut Ozil combined.

I like Lallana but I hate these stats, I'm sure similar ones were dredged up when Adam and Downing signed.

I'm delighted with this signing. Put him in my fantasy team early on in the season and as a result would always watch out for him when playing. Quick on the touch, great final third passing, presses well, can set up and can score, seems to be quite a good all rounder. Also born in St Albans which is where I'm from.

I don't trust my radar when it comes to transfers anymore after i said that Morientes would be a huge success and Henderson would never fit in, but I am feeling pretty good about this.

Over the past few windows we added pace and workrate to the team. Now we're adding intelligence.

I reckon this was Brendan's number 1 target, and we've got him. He should fit in very well. Therefore, I'm very happy.

Welcome Adam!

If he's being asked to head the ball too frequently - which isn't exactly his specialty - it could affect his ear and cause an infection. Especially if the ball hits him on the ear directly.

Of course he does, he was there from age 12, broke into the first team and stayed through Championship, League 1, Championship again and 2 years in the top flight. Southampton might talk a big game but without his sale, Shaw's sale and Lambert's sale they couldn't have afforded the kind of signings that would take them into CL contention. Now they can, but with a weaker squad to start with. Realistically, at best they've reached a plateau point and he's 26 and wants to progress. It's not disloyal, it's ambition.

You can understand that really. he's their captain and if he had to kick up a fuss to get his move.

Still, he's more than paid his dues there, gave him years of service in the lower leagues when others left early.

Do we know this is the case? Did he ever get offers from other clubs or is this summer the first time he's really been sought after?

Sorry, that is not a proper lean, they need to go back and do a proper one.

RODGERS OUT!

In all seriousness though, very excited by this signing. While we do need new players in a few different positions (LB) its good to see the club getting a player that fits into the system that we play and that, most importantly, the manager wanted.  Can't wait to see him play for us next season.

There's always a whiff of some minor hypocrisy whenever a "name" joins any club - it's inevitable.
I think this lad is an honest player (which I always highly appreciate) and a good signing. He will do a good job for Liverpool and will benefit from the playing alongside Steven Gerrard , the guy he's clearly been bought to replace eventually.

I wish him the best of luck in his new career - except when he plays against us of course!
There is nothing wrong with striving to win, so long as you don't set the prize above the game. There can be no dishonour in defeat nor any conceit in victory. What matters above all is that the team plays in the right spirit, with skill, courage, fair play,no favour and the result accepted without bitterness. Sir Matt Busby CBE KCSG 1909-1994

Fair point. Don't really know although you'd assume there would have been interest from him when he was in the League One from Championship teams, or from Lower Premier League teams when he was in the Championship.

Ruffles my feathers a bit too, frankly. An incredibly ingratiating thing to say about your new club, but total shit for your old one. Though reading the whole quote it sort of seems like he just meant toward the end of the season, which could also be down to how murky Southampton's future was becoming at the time.
