I like he's nose.
It would give Mike Tindall and Steve Bruce a run for its money.

Of his eleven kicks out to near and beyond the halfway line at Sunderland, four found our players, seven found theirs. At this level that is a bit of a weakness to say the least. I have no doubt it is an area that the club stattos would discuss in depth with the goalkeeping and defence coaches & they will specifically address it.

Szczesny made three out of ten passes to players near or beyond the halfway line at the weekend.

Valdes made two out of seven.

Those two have some of the best passing stats and play for teams who play attacking possession football.

I don't think the long passes are a problem, they will always be more of a gamble. It's passing it short when he and the defence are being pressed.

Watched the Napoli Arsenal game last night and could not believe how small Pepe looked in the goal. Nothing against him, just struck me as something I hadn't noticed before.

I've obviously got used to Simon filling the goal a hell of a lot more.

Another thing about last nights game, Mignolet would have defo saved Ozil goal.

People mention Pepe and his distribution all of the time.

What i meant is were not begging for him to be back. It's fine to say certain points we miss but were not banging on about Pepe every week. I thought i would. It's a very good thing.

I got slaughtered on here when i said pepe was never world class,  think people can see now that this guy is the real deal, assuming he can iron out a  few problems,  but time is on  his side while the lovable, cracking character  that is pepe reina never was going to be.

You should have gotten stick for saying that. Pepe Reina was never world class? There was a period of a good 2-3 years where you'd not have swapped him for any keeper in the England, perhaps Europe even to be fair. He fit the way the team played perfectly. Quick off his line to allow the defence to push up, great distribution, solid shot stopper. A lot of things changed in the last couple of years of course, but he was for a period a great, and easily the best keeper I've seen play for the club. Easily. Hopefully Simon matches that.

Agree with every word, BazC. Reina was outstanding for a number of seasons, absolutely brilliant. He declined, quite rapidly in the end, for whatever reason, and I'm very happy with Mignolet now, but I hope we never forget how good Reina was at his peak. Although it seems many already have.

bazc, i  always thought he was beaten too easily  when rafa was here he generally had little to do, they say great keepers dont make big errors  in big games well the 1 at chelsea  in the c/l   when we had  clawed   our way back from the death was  unforgivable just about, as i said he was  a great character baz.

Fair enough, he did have a brain fart every now and then but I don't think they were that regular. As I said, I think his other qualities fit the team to a tee at the time, and it allowed us to play some great football. Since Rafa left, Hodgson, Kenny then Rodgers came in, he stagnated a fair bit. The sweeper keeper abilities became redundant, and whilst his distribution was good, perhaps it didn't make up for the deficiencies that crept into his game. For now, Mignolet's a better shout - I'll agree with that. But Pepe was a world class keeper, at least once upon a time, and he was part of the best Liverpool side I've seen play football. Still irks that they won nothing and how quickly it fell apart just a few months after. Anyway...

Nope, Courtois is still the first keeper and it won't change barring injuries.

It's a bit sad to be a backup of a younger keeper... Seems like his future for the national team is in the odd friendly games... A bit like Iker and Pepe, except Pepe was younger.

Anything's possible. Injuries, loss of form, suspensions... As it stands he is the backup though. Courtois is fantastic and so is Mignolet. they just both happen to play for the same country. Must be a drag for Simon but every team needs a backup and hopefully he will get some chances.

There's a difference though. Mignolet is clear 2nd choice while since 2011 Pepe is 3rd choice.

Some of those saves are absolutely incredible!

As for the embedding, you need flash tags.

[flash=500,300 ]https://www.youtube.com/v/sd0h_YR1tdI [ /flash]

Put the youtube link in between them and delete the "watch?" and "=" and then put a / where the = was. So the link should now look like this inside the tags: https://www.youtube.com/v/sd0h_YR1tdI

Also, obviously there should be no spaces for the tags to work :wave

<a href="https://www.youtube.com/v/sd0h_YR1tdI" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" class="bbc_link bbc_flash_disabled new_win">https://www.youtube.com/v/sd0h_YR1tdI</a>

For me I didn't notice how stale things had got with Reina until Mig arrived. He's been a breath of fresh air at the back and he's hungry. I don't like making comparisons with Reina as its too soon in the day. My concerns were always - are we getting the better keeper out of Mig or Begovic. As it stands I'm happy with the boss's choice.

Agree with the above.  Think he's been a bit shaky in a couple of games but that's understanable.
Think more stability in the defensive line-up will make him more confident... must be hard trying to build a relationship when the back-line is having to change every week.

Nope. They're thinking of Achterberg. He's been slated from hell to high water on here because he only played for Tranmere at a lower level and therefore people think he doesn't have the experience to coach footballers at this level. Which is absurd. From what I know Achterberg is quite highly rated as a coach in this country.
