Looked like he was picked to start because of Spurs high line.  Was a risk and almost didn't pay off.  He was threatening at times, but was well off his game - to be expected after injury.

His performance also reminded me a little of his more frustrating performances for Chelsea where he'd shoot from outlandish positions, but again I'd say that was born out of frustration with his inability to get a foothold in the game.

Be interesting to see how Rodgers accommodates him and Coutinho in the future as we seemed to be outnumbered by Spurs in the midfield, and really hurt our passing/possession game.

I think when we eventually perfect defending high up the pitch (pushing the midfield closer to the attack) I think that is when you'll see the bet of Sturridge. He strikes me as the type of player that likes passing options around him to pass to and ue as decoys. I'm hoping we wont defend so deep again for the rest of the season.

One of the quartet would have to drop deeper and play as one of the midfield trio while retaining the freedom to advance forward periodically.

Lets hope that it isnt due to injury. We cant underestimate how well Spurs defend...how many Strikers have looked good vs Spurs in recent months? Sometimes the defender you go up against bests you and you move on.

He had an excellent turn on Vertonghen in the 2nd half, a turn that would have got him ahead of any defender he has faced so far with us. But on this occasion JV made an excellent recovery tackle to prevent a goalscoring chance. Shit happens.

We'll see him play like that when he's fully fit anyway, it happens. He's that sort of striker. You don't pick up a 23 year old English versatile striker for Ł12 million without there being a few flaws.
If he's being asked to head the ball too frequently - which isn't exactly his specialty - it could affect his ear and cause an infection. Especially if the ball hits him on the ear directly.

That type of striker puts in that type of performance. We were up against it for quite a bit of the game, and the links between midfield and Sturridge weren't where they have been in previous games. It's not something that worries me at all.

I don't know how you deduce that considering he was deep in the celebratory huddle and was urging the rest if the team to celebrate together.

He wasn't great today but his contribution grew as we got more of the ball. His hold up play was still good, although I would like to see him be more aggressive and get in the faces of defenders more.

Yeah, he celebrated. But stood where I was stood, when the goals went in he didn't look particularly happy whilst everyone was throwing their arms up and sprinting to the scorer, whilst he strolled over. I don't know if the TV showed that or not, I'm guessing not.

It's minor, and as someone else said it is probably because he's goal hungry which is a good trait. I didn't think everyone would make it out as if I'm making a big issue out of it, just an observation.

Plus, I said "I didn't think he'd have a good game", as in before the game. As you said, he wasn't great by what else we've seen of him so far, and I agree about getting in the faces of defenders more. It might do him some good to watch some clips of Torres when he was here.

BR said after the match that his and Suarez's partnership was a little off (not in those words).

When he said they both want to be up there playing off the shoulder of the defence, when one should be dropping
deeper (Luis) and the other can create the space by stretching the defence (Sturridge).

No bother though got the 3 points without Sturridge firing on all cylinders, his fitness and touch will improve once he gets a couple games under his belt.

We're winning games and scoring a lot of goals lately.

He's been contributing in some form to a lot of that.

Not concerned about him at all.

Whether a player has an off game/ getting back up to speed after a slight injury.....its much easier for a striker to hit form in a team that is already scoring goals.

Really like his contribution to the team so far.

He only annoyed me when Downing played a peach perfect ball into the middle, Sturridge miscontrolled it, and just stood there, when the ball fell only a few yards behind him, a Spurs player who was further away by at least 5 yards ran back and picked it up

he should have scored when Coutinho played that absolutely magnificent ball through but his first touch was a little off (ok way off corner flag off), he gives Suarez room to breathe though

I think he was expecting Gerrard to be there, I honestly thought a Liverpool player was going to be first on that ball, but they didn't follow up.
Must admint Cesc is a great prospect new him before he went to Arsenal, same with Pique(now at ManU) and Messi also from Barcelona. Watch out for these guys in the future look very good.

Get him in the scouting team ASAP!

I saw him put his hand on his hip, run his hand through his hair and scratch his nose. What are the docs doing? Clearly has a dislocated hip, broken nose and nits.

Nothing ground breaking.

I love the fact that Rodgers is telling potential new signings that's it's hard to describe with words what being a part of Liverpool is like, you've got to experience it :)

I don't disagree with your initial statement, as I do think he has done very well and will go on to become a great player.

How can you so quickly change your mind to say he is one of our main players though? After he's played six or seven games for us (and maybe only 5 at the standard we need)?

You only need to look as far as Jelavic to see that you are being a little naive.

I can understand it. Jelavic scored goals but he never displayed Sturidge's pace, ability on the ball or game intelligence. Jelavic just had a knack for arriving at the right time and finishing his chances.

So by playing a handful of games he is already a main player? Surely we should be judging players over time. Not a few games.

I think Sturridge is still carrying a not because he doesn't seem to be moving as freely as he was when he first arrived. The most notable thing being when he refused to chase down that ball that dropped behind him in the box which got the crowd on his back. I think that was because of his injured thigh rather than laziness.

I agree, he looked off against Spurs and Southampton compared to his other games but one thing that worries me is that whilst he's very good and has brought a whole new dimension to our attack, is he that real clinical striker we've been desperate for? Also I thought it was harsh when the fans got on his back, it hasn't been a regular occurence him doing that, he's been working very hard in most games but like you say I think it was the injury and possibly in fear of aggravating it.

No, he is:

Sturridge has 5 goals in 9 games though. I'll take that.
