Steve Finnan has been voted RAWK's Player of the Season 2006-07.

In a poll dominated by defensive players, the consistent Irish right back came out on top with 25% of the votes. Daniel Agger's composed maturity took him into second, with Pepe Reina's happy knack of keeping clean sheets seeing the Spaniard claim third just ahead of scouse superstar Jamie Carragher. These four were streets ahead of the rest of the squad with top scorer Peter Crouch a distant fifth, mirroring fans disappointment with the attacking output from the midfielders and strikers this season.

Top 5
1. Steve Finnan 25%
2. Daniel Agger 23.2%
3. Pepe Reina 20.9%
4. Jamie Carragher 18%
5. Peter Crouch 3.4%

Javier Mascherano's strong displays since arriving in January saw him finish top of the midfielders, with Steven Gerrard and Xabi Alonso suffering against their previously high standards. Last summer's signings Fabio Aurelio, Mark Gonzalez, Jermaine Pennant, Craig Bellamy and Dirk Kuyt garnered just 2.3% of the vote between them perhaps illustrating that at the top level money talks. If there's one player in the squad who should be worried it is John Arne Riise who was alone out of the regular back 5 in failing to garner significant votes.

I voted Agger, I think. He's our most important defender now, imo. Even more so than Carragher. He's helped the transition into a team that plays relatively deep into one that can push up the field and press teams as dramatically as Pepe did with his sweeping and communication abilities. Kuyt's a little bit hard done by - maybe if the poll allowed us to select three people, he would have done a little better. He's just not at the forefront of everybody's minds unlike Finnan and Agger.

Can't believe Kuyt got so few votes to be honest, considering Crouch got in the top 5 anyway.

JC was my choice but full respect to Finnan. Mr consistent and with no real competition, fair play. Whoever we sign, should still be first choice right back.

A really interesting set of results. Good to see the likes of Finnan and Agger receive praise. If anything the results show the relative distate some Liverpool fans still have for Gerrard. On merit he should really be higher up but he isn't. The memory of those "Chelsea summers" still runs deep.

A worthy winner IMO. I'd have put Reina in 2nd and then Agger in 3rd, but overall I can't complain about the results.

Not really, by his standards he had a poor season.

I voted Finnan. The lad deserves more credit for his performnces than what he gets.

Can't really argue with the top 4. Pretty much spot on.

I voted Reina as I feel without him we look a dramatically different team, however can't argue with Finnan at all, Agger would probably have been 3rd or 4th for me, with Kuyt's first season in the league for me being a success and his tireless workrate and decent return running him close or pipping him at the post, can't decide.

Have to say I though Steve Finnan had a much better season 05-06 than 06-07 when his performances were slightly less consistent and he was much less of an attacking threat.

Definately deserves recogniton, but Agger for me.

I think it's worth making this a permanent thing, it's more representative of the fans than .tv's one.

Might be worth teaming up with a few sites and having a big one and knocking a trophy up?

I voted for Agger, because I believe he's become (or fast becoming) our most important man in the back 4, and will be for years to come. And who could forget some of the goals he's scored for us?

HOWEVER, Steve Finnan is a worthy winner, and he would've been my second choice. Congratulations Stevie! Hopefully we'll get to watch you defend our right flank for years to come yet.

I personally voted Agger, but definately wouldnt take anything away from Finnan - who had another good season. Efficient/consistent/reliable. Will definately be one of the players who will be surely missed after leaving, ala Nicol & Whelan. Its not all about superstars, creating a 'balance' in the team is an essential factor. Finnan helps give that balance.

Very happy to see Finnan winning this - well deserved. Another very good season for him, consistent and reliable again. Unsung hero who never gets the credit he deserves. Also good to see he has improved quite a lot going forward, I think. Just great to have a player like Finnan in our squad.

Hope he reads these results, to boost his confidence ahead of pre- and next season.

Had a chat with some friends of mine who are Man U fans and told them Finnan got the RAWK player of the year and they agreed and said he is the best RF in the world. Some compliment from Mancs.

Shame Gerrard didn't make it higher on the list (not that i voted for him either). He's not my favourite, but in hindsight, he does make a huge difference when he's on the field.

Finnan was absolutely rock solid. Keep forgetting that he aint no spring chicken. He only looks about 17!
