Had a phone call from by Brother about a problem he's got with his Dreambox 800. when he starts up it comes up with  No Ca found. this happens before it shows up the IP address of the dreambox.

I checked the error out on the internet and it seems quite easy to fix using a Null Cable and Dream up.

But the problem is the Null cable fixes into the dreambox no problem but neither my computer or his has the same connection on our PC's.

Is there any other way can you use Dream up USB to USB? or I noticed on Ebay you can get a USB to RS232 Serial Null Modem Cable COM DB 9 Pin Lead would this work.

Any hekp would be much appreciated he's driving me mad about it.

Or would it be easier to by a  pci com adapter card from ebay?

The CA error occurs when you've flashed a clone 800 with an original image, dream built clone protection measures into the second stage bootloader which checks the authenticity of the on board SIM card. The box will fail to boot if the SIM card is not an original, you need to get hold of a modified second stage bootloader which is compatible with your onboard clone SIM. Clones usually have either a SIM 2.0 or Ferrari SIM, which require different bootloaders, usually named something like SSLxxC or SSLxxF respectively. You can use DreamUP in serial mode to reflash the secondstage alone without having to reflash the entire image and yes you need the USB to Serial converter and null modem lead. Oh and just to ensure complete compatibilty with the drivers contained within the image, it is best to get hold of the same version (78, 79 ..81 etc) of the clone bootloader or as close to the original version.

I'm surprised your brother has had this trouble, if by the sound of it, he hasn't tried a reflash. The only thing I can think of is if he's tried an online image update - a real no-no for clone users.

Yes he did do a reflash he going to buy a usb to serial converter on ebay and when it arrives he's going to give me a call and we will give it a go then. I don't really know why he thinks I know what I am doing.

In all honesty I'm glad this happened to his box because I've been flashing my box lately with no problem so at least I can experiment on his box to fix the problems encase it ever happens to mine.

Oh, right, the fact that you didn't have a method of connecting to the serial port made me assume that a direct reflash had not been attempted. So he reflashed via the web interface? Not something I would recommend because I believe it is more susceptible to errors. When you do get up and running with the serial link and DreamUP, bear in mind that you should be using an older version of DreamUP for clones, the opposite is true for Original boxes where you should be using the latest. I think its something like V1.3.3.4 for clones and V1.3.3.9 onwards for originals. I've studied the software and I can't quite put my finger on it but for some reason clone boxes really struggle to get an IP network connection with the later versions. I suspect that Dream may have introduced other protection methods in the later versions in combination with newer bootloaders which take effect during the initial IP handshake.

Hi guys,

I've read the thread and am really interested in getting cable.

Is it really that dodgy though? Does anyone know that the fines/charges are if you get caught using a cardsharing service? Have many people in the UK been caught?

I'd like to know because I need to convince the parents that it's a good idea. The sky bill is massive and this would be a great way of getting the same channels at a much cheaper cost.

The USB port to serial came today went along my brothers and had his Dreambox up and running again in about 15 minutes using Dreambox NCF repair kit.

Really thought it was going to be an nightmare but it was a piece of piss and then gave him the link to where I get my images from so hopefully he won't do it again.

The Dreambox works with sky Satellite just remove the sky box and replace it with a Dreambox connected to the Internet.

dm800hd or vu+ solo are probably the best bet for you, there are other boxes but these 2 are the best supported in terms of updated images (operating system) and finding help if you fuck anything up

I'm sure the media player on the box can. If you don't have it by default you can download the plugin. If the PC is set up to share the folder/browse on network then your sorted  :D

Look at the clones . I have an original DM800 and there is no real advantage . If anything it is easier to find clone images .

You get a box that supports cccam or mgcamd emulation, you go to a card sharing forum, request a test line, configure your cccam / mgcamd files and input the c/n line your given, connect your box to the Internet and away you go

We have sky in our flat, but the dish is communal. According to sky's website it's 78cm, but I guess it's all irrelevant and we can't set one of these dream boxes up till we leave here and get a house?

I think you can. The reason being the decryption is via connection to the internet not the from the dish (in respect to Card Sharing)

Got a SkyHD subscription but Internet through Virgin.

Is there anyone on here who could give me a price on getting something sorted so I get all the channels I have now, but without paying?

SKY UK (NOW IN HD). £200.00 (Standard Def) --- £250.00 (High Definition. Openbox)
I fit a dish (or can install to your existing sky dish), box, and you get 6 months free of all SKY UK channels (£60 every 6months thereafter). Setanta Ireland and Setanta sports are are now viewable on the HD BOX.
