I am at the University of Liverpool and I'd recommend  it to anybody. It can be slightly pretentious compared to JMU but I think that aside it's a decent uni which will test your ability to the maximum.

I went to Liverpool Uni (the red-brick one) and don't regret it at all - spent 6 years of my life there in all!

Boston Red - It depends on what you want to study - vets and medics, for example, don't have a choice as the poly (sorry JMU) doesn't offer those courses. For others, you have a wider choice with Edge Hill and the one in Childwall too.

Just been offered a place to study English and Philosophy. Got to wait to hear from King's College now. If I have to travel miles from London to uni then it'll definitely be Liverpool.

And i've just passed all my first semester exams.

Even if i never got above 60% on any of them. Not that the mark matters at this stage.

Can only speak for myself and my mates - yes.

Know quite a lot that came here to Uni and stayed on coz they liked the place so much (city too), and hence have made Liverpool their long-term home.
Others live in various parts of the world now, but the ones I am still in contact with look back on it with fond memories.
Have a look through some of the comments about it on Friendsreunited.co.uk - you'll soon see how people felt about the place! You might even find some who did the course you are considering... Just gives you some neutral opinions.

Absolutely, I loved it there. Those three years of my life were bloody brilliant - Obviously hard work at times, but it's a great place to learn.

Which course in particular are you studying?

I've got offers for straight Politics and History Modern and Politics combined.

Unless your teaching staff happen to be a part time tutor and a Phd student, in which case, like 2nd year law students, you still have ALL of your lectures.

Totally. Theres a good 50/50 balance. No choice on what you study for politics in your first year and with history you get to pick one of your modules for the second term.

The staff are really good and know there stuff. You get a good roation of staff to so you get used to different styles. The only thing is the politics department is a bit disorganised

Especially considering how much we pay to be here in the first place.

And thats what I cant understand in the first place....

Really, we pump in sooo much money between us all into the place, and they're saying that they dont get enough? My question is, where is all this money going to? I mean, surely to god the new blinds in the Modern Langs Building didnt cost all THAT much....

Liverpool University has a substantial history of some hundreds of years, equal to the oxbridge colleges (Oxford and Cambridge). Liverpool University more than holds it's own. ;)

Good stuff, i did Hispanic Studies there, finished in 2004.
Never did Italian and French, only other languages i did bar Spanish were Portuguese and Catalan.
Who teaches Spanish these days? Is it still Christie McHale and Geoff Park?

Wish i was still at uni!

Yeah both of them are still going strong- Geoffs' excellent, and a really big red too which helps :)

Christie, dare i say it, is so monotonomous (if thats a word?) that it does send you to sleep- Grammar lessons last year, in one we had no fewer than 5 of the boys actually dozing off at 4pm!

Still good ol' Roger as well, with Kirsty Hooper and Chris Harris these days.

To be honest though, all the lecturers I have are all pretty decent people :)

Can any Uni of Liverpool students tell me how easy it is to find the Thompson Yates Building?  Going to the open day on Friday and just wondered if it's easy or whether i'll need to keep my eyes peeled for it (and being as i need to get up at 5am in the morning theres a good chance they'll still be shut...).  Cheers.
