Converting Media
« on: October 7, 2006, 12:10:06 pm »
I used the search facility and found that someone had recommended WinAVIVideo Convertor for changing files in DVDR. I've downloaded a trial version and burnt a DVD but successfully but it has winavi printed in the middle of the screen. Does anyone know if this changes if I upgrade to the full version?

If not what program will convert to DVDR without leaving it's sig on the screen?

Ta :wave

Right I have upgraded and it still leaves a dirty big sig in the middle of the screen. Why would anyone pay for software that's going to leave that in the middle of the screen and totally ruin your enjoyment of the film or series you are watching?

Am I doing something wrong?

How have you upgraded?

Have you registered it with a serial number or what?

A registered version should definitely not leave a watermark.

Errr, OK.

Is there a setting for the watermarking which you can turn off?

I can't seem to find one. I used WinAVI to convert it but Nero (not WinAVI) to burn it, but surely that wouldn't make a difference?

There is a support email addy support@winavi.com <support@winavi.com>

But I'd feel a bit cheeky using that, all things considered. :-\

Get in touch with them. I've got a full version and it doesn't leave a watermark.

Look harder. There HAS to be one.

Nah once the conversion's been done, burn it with anything.

A kind RAWKite has contacted me by IM and pointed me in the direction of #1 Video Covertor and it seems to be doing the trick. I did like that WinAVI though - shame about the watermark thing. :-\

Surely it would just not activate the full version?

No you were right. Rather than tell you that your key is not genuine they activate the full version but leave the watermark. Cheeky bastards trying to stop people stealing their software.

There is a way round it though.

That #1 Video Covertor is a bit of a processor killer. From that alone my processor was sweating like a paedo in a Barnye costume.

I love this WinAVI and as I've had a few problems with Nero buring audio I am gonna dump Nero all together.

Okay on Nero you just dump the dvd file with video_at and audio_at and burn them, I've just done that with WinAVI and all I get on the dvd is a data file with those two headings. What do you do on WinAVI to burn?

Cheers for that, I tried it and its decent.  I had to also download the ImgBurn software  as after the Avi2Dvd had done its conversion, I couldnt burn a ISO file to dvd.

This ImgBurn software does that.. and its all free.

now i have a question, i've recently take to downloading the high def version of tv shows on the net, x264 divx (700mb to 1.4gb), now i usually share the downloaded episodes with mates etc who want to see them, rather than go and download the normal resolution (350mb) and waste my download limits does anyone know of software to convert it?

would it just be a case of setting it to output to a lower resolution?

Just convert to DivX or MPEG or something. I doubt you'd need to change the rez to get far smaller files. Tweak the compression a bit maybe.

Can you choose a target size and keep the rez unchanged?

What you use to convert ?

OK, I have converted lost.avi episodes to DVD format (audio_ts & video_ts).

I want to put more than one episode on to a disk... I have 3 different audio_ts folders, I dont know how to put them all onto one disc.

What did you use to convert Walshy? Does it not have a burn option?

Otherwise you need a DVD creation prog. Nero will do it, for one.

Barney I have sorted it, but the qualiy is crap.  Basically I have 3 episodes of Lost.  I have used WinAVI to convert them to DVD (the audio_ts and video_ts folders).  I used Nero burning rom to burn them to DVD.  When I play back though, the audio is 'bitty' and out of sync with the action.

Do you have any idea how to rectify this?  It seems to work when I put one episode per disc, but the episode is only 45 mins, I have a DVD disc for god sake, cannot be wasting them.

I'd say it's WinAVI that's fucking up the sync. Bin it and try encoding then burning with NERO.

You could try burning the Video_TS, Audio_TS files with CloneDVD

Does anyone know anyway to combine video files into one seamless file?

I've downloaded things such as the season review from last year and the Path to 9/11, which are all made up of numerous parts. This is fine for viewing on the PC but I want to burn to a DVD and it'd be shit with separate files.
