And therein lies the problem, the continual overrating of English players. And this leads to them having inflated egos and they think they can do whatever they want

So you're telling me that a front 5 of Rooney, Young, Downing, Johnson and Gerrard isn't a good, fluid attack? The only player there I have question marks over is Johnson. Central defence is looking a bit weak, but the full-backs are two of the best in the Premier League. I think you're doing the England team a disservice. They're not better than Germany, Brazil, Argentina, Spain and Holland; but probably on par or slightly worse than Uruguay, Portugal, Italy and France. In fact, those 9 plus England probably make up the top 10 in the world.

I don't like England, but to say they aren't made up of good individual players is silly.

Yeah, agree with that.

Don't understand why though. Think a lot of it is to do with media/national expectation. Plus Capello himself. I respect what he's done in the past, but he gets England playing rarely.

Hartson so right about Capello. I was about to post the same.

The guy really is on holiday time and is just on autopilot it seems. never answers a straight question

What would you do? The players are more concerned about impressing the media with individual performances than listen to the manager and work as a team. The best midfield playmaker he has to choose from is Michael Carrick and if he dares to make a call that would benefit the team he gets cruxified and mocked.

Probably because the wrong players (Lampard, Barry, Walcott to name just 3) have been played for too long.

But overall, Hungary wasn't very good at all, but we were woeful.
Of course we weren't. But I expected a loss without our best players, and was positively surprised by the squad grinding out a result.

Lawro's genius analysis after the game.

Part of England's problem is that everyone went overboard on the back of Friday's win in Sofia. It is always the same - they are either seen as brilliant or dreadful and there is no halfway house.

I sort of get his point but who the fuck went overboard? Bulgaria were dreadful and England are still a million miles away from competing for a major tournament.

Yeah, agree with that.

Don't understand why though. Think a lot of it is to do with media/national expectation. Plus Capello himself. I respect what he's done in the past, but he gets England playing rarely.
Players have too big of Egos.  Put them selves before the team. That ginger fella from Manc land, got it spot on. Players are more concerned about themselves, and how they portray themselves in the public media than the team. Also players would try to do the hard flashy stuff, instead of the simple pass. Expectations to high.

As someone said before, Carrick should be playing. He is a better CM than Barry and Milner. The older players of Ferdinand, Terry, Gerrard, Lampard need to phased out with the new upcoming players coming in. People moan when we don't play the youngsters. When they do, and they get played out of position to fit in the older players and normally have a poor game. Look at Henderson against Ghana was it?, he was played CM was it? Game flew by him, because he is a right midfielder (I think he is).  Then people moan saying they arn't good enough.  ::) ;D Plus didn't help Scholes retired for international football so fucking Early. World Class player, and proper play maker. Something England have lacked for years, would have been useful for them over the years. Plus England don't have a very good defensive midfielder. Barry, no ta. Decent short range passing, slow minded, average tackling, not 'aggressive' enough for DM, slow and turns like an aircraft carrier. And Parker, not good enough.

And today, he had two wide men and Rooney up top. Fair enough. I think he had Lampard as the attacking midfielder, with Barry the holding midfielder, and fuck knows what Milner was doing. Lampard didn't support Rooney very well, and looked like a passenger. Barry was just being Barry, and Milner tried to get some pace into the midfield and failed. England lacked creativity in the center, which forced Rooney to drop into England's half  :o to try and get something going. We got the ball to the wings, and near enough every cross failed to find Rooney or Lampard because they weren't in the right positions.

Thought Downing was good though on the right, his intelligent runs creating space for Smalling to over lap on times and exploit.  He grew into the game, and ran at Wales defenders. Put crosses into good spaces.  8) Hopefully on the right in the future, it will be Kelly and Downing for England.  :P

Anyway, lets just see if Capello has the balls to drop the Lampards, Barry's, Gerrards (I hope he reties from international's and focuses on Liverpool  ;) ) and  players under performing.  :D

Carroll/D Bent
Young -- Rooney -- Downing
Carrick -- Wilshere
Baines/Cole -- Jones/Cahil -- Smalling/Jagielka -- Kelly/Johnson
Hart

England don't have Spain/Germany/Brazil/Argie standard players, but there not that shit that a poor Wales side should have drawn against them.

Anyway think I have rambled on for too long, enjoyed watching England play shite.  :D

He will play if he will play him in his propa posistion, CAM. I hate Lampard being ahead of him. Gerrard is miles better. Plus am a pessimic about his injuries, plus he has been off form for some time.   >:(

Hopefully he regains his form, when this recurring injury is finally fixed for good.

RIP to the Wales fan, hope they catch the killer.

Odd how Carrick has been one of those used to beat Ferguson with and cm is generally considered Man U's weakest area, now suddenly he seems to be the answer to England's problems. He has the ability to be but he hasn't shown it. As for Henderson, it was against France and he played badly at DM, most of the press had a go at Capello for playing him there. As they would have if he played him on the right.

As for the game, typical England at home. No real complaints about the line up under the circumstances though would have liked to see Kelly called up and playing since Smalling was shaky against Bulgaria and does seem to lack the ability on the ball required. England at home tend to be static and fearful, since they know how "fantastic" and loyal the press/fans can be. Wales defended well and Hennsey killed off quite a few attacks with his sweeping ability and willingness to claim crosses. Nice goal and Wales rocked slightly but this time kept their defensive shape to see it out till half time.

Second half, none of our midfielders picked up Ramsey in the same way Crofts picked up Rooney, Bale was able to find space (not helped by Cole having a dreadful evening) and they caused us damage. We lost control of midfield, which always happens at home, and our flickering front 3 struggled to get into the game (a problem they had against Bulgaria at times). We were extremely lucky that Bellamy was missing, about that offside call, that Darcy's defence spitting run from the setpeice was met by Earnshaw forgetting how to score... Got the result but we needed to be jammy to do so. A few positives (Cahill, Smalling, Barry, Young) out of the game, that and Montenegro game is away so we stand a chance whereas we should be in deep trouble if at home. Lots of positives for Wales though a bit more cutting edge would be useful for them.

Agreed.. Parker is probably the best defensive midfielder atm.. I don't understand why Huddlestone has't been given more chances. Good passer, hell of a shot, big and strong.. Maybe not the most mobile player but play him next to Wilshere, Milner or Parker and Gerrard in front of them.. See how that works. I would be very happy(selfishly) if Gerrard was axed from Ingurland though..

It’s long been the consensus that the FIFA rankings are a bit of a joke but aren’t Wales below the Faroe Islands (or someone equally crap)? They have the nucleus of a decent team with Bellamy, Bales, Ramsey, Hennessey etc. I think they’re in a very tough WC qualifying group though so it could be some time before they mature enough to have a shout at qualifying.

So why are you blaming Capello? Keegan, Sven and Cappello have all failed with this crop of players...it surely can't be the players fault can it? It MUST be the manager...

Arguably, I am resting some of the blame on Capello. Yes,he was a good manager with decent stats before hand. But if you think that we have a poor team that can't be played as a unit or have individual shit players, think again. Like James Mac said before hand, England has some fantastic players. Capello should by all means (Judging on his previous records) fucking slaughtered Wales last night. Instead they didn't. Now, by all means I do not work in the England squad. I do not know whether its him,the players refusing or the training coach staff but something is wrong. Capello needs to fix this problem before it gets exploited.

"England are ontop of their group, top by points and are going to cruise into the group you prick."

Sure, but can you say we are really ontop? Bar 1-2 games in this group, most have been screaming with problems. There are cracks in the england squad with their tactics/ certian players that are being too easily covered up with sloppy wins and die-hard media.
