Don't know to be honest Rich.
I know it was taken in 1963 though.

Did they knock the Piggeries down in the 80s?

Gulleysucker  ^^^^ are you sure that thats the same building?

Looking at the windows on the second storey, the obvious adornment is not around the windows on the older pic, but also the spacing between the larger and smaller window looks wrong.

Is it the same building just tarted up or something other?

I think that the piggeries were knocked down in about 1982-83 ish.

No idea when they were originaly built like.

In fact, I couldn't even tell you what the three blocks were actually called. I only ever knew them by their nickname of the piggeries.

Edit Just looked them up. They were called  Crosbie, Canterbury and Haig hights.

Without looking it up, the building in the background looks like the back of the White Star building. No?

So maybe James St, from near the Victoria monument?

I can't be arsed looking it up right now.

No, I'm not absolutely 100%.
I did notice the adornments on the windows in the new shot but think they could have been added anytime after the original shot
The reason I suspect it might be the building is more its placement at the junction given the street name on the sign on the wall, and I'm using the tramlines in the old pic and assuming they are on Vauxhall. Then there is the distinctive brickwork at the edges and corner of the building which seem to be almost identical in both shots.
The new shot also looks like it would have been a pub, it is on the corner, before William Hills or whoever rebuilt the lower part.
The gap between the windows I think might just be an optical thing due to the different angle and also a foreshortening effect caused by the architectural additions.
But yes, I'm not totally sure.

I thought Crane & Sons, they made pianos and other musical instruments, was somewhere around Lord Street and Church Street, but I really can't figure that picture out.

Looking at that again I think you are right mate.
The building on the left with the tower looks like the Compton Building which was on Church Street.

That tower looks like it has an octaganal top and the hotel ones while initially similar seem to be square and have those funny things sticking up on the corners of the decorative balcony.
I honestly don't know where that is, I too tried London road initially but then tried to find Crane & Sons but there seems to be nothing left in the picture to get bearings on.

I still can't quite get the streetview that you have posted up though.
That low retaining corrugated concrete wall and the fence look like it should be near the Queensway entrance road complex. Any chance of posting up the link?

I'll be honest though I found that Crane & Sons also had a place on Scotland Road here as well as the Church street premises.

I'm takin 'Mile End' as a co-ordinate for this (it's on the top right of the Gore's image). The next street along from Crane's no longer exists, so it's a bit of a hit and hope.
