It's not within my right to forgive him. But its a long time ago now, he has apologised many times, and I don't think there can be any doubt about his sincerity in what he has said or his love for this football club and it's supporters. I don't know why he's in hospital but he has a history of heart problems, just hope he was in soon enough and they got it sorted, whatever it is. Good health Souey.

As Phil Boersma said when he went in for his Heart Op bet the vain twat gets his nose done again while he is under.

Flawed character but what a magnificent player, think of Stevie G but made of kryptonite, the original iron fist in the velvet glove.

Get well my Captain.

When he was our manager he had a heart bypass operation he was 38

He had another one a couple of years ago, because that one wasn't too successful.

38? Was a kid at the time, didn't realise he was so young when that happened. Top level athlete. Absolutely mental.

Hope it's nothing serious. A legend of the club.

Didn't get to see him during his playing days but from the many clips I have seen all these years, he seemed a really great player.

Fantastic player, fantastic pundit.

Stevie, Kenny, Barnes and Souness are the greatest we ever had.

This should be interesting.

Whilst I don't like Souness as a manager, I will always remember him as an absolute monster in the middle of our team, when we were in our pomp (at least, one of the times that we were in our pomp  ;) ).

He was a great footballer and is a very good pundit - One of the few to be absolutely brutal with the truth.

In and case, get well soon Graham.  Hope it's nothing too serious (obviously, it must be somewhat serious to be in hospital).

Hope he's OK. I've forgiven him for the S*n interview. He's said sorry loads of times and realised that it was a stupid thing to do.

“I accept I made one almighty rick by doing The Sun newspaper,” he said.

“At the time I didn’t realise the strength of feeling against The Sun.

“When I was manager of Liverpool, there were players in my team dealing with The Sun newspaper.

“There were ex-players dealing with that newspaper.

“My problem was that I agreed to do an exclusive with them.

“The thing that really killed me, and makes me sad today is that the last thing I want to do is upset any Liverpool supporter – especially the people damaged by Hillsborough – in whatever shape or form.”

The interview with Souness was due to go in alongside the match report on April 14 1992 but with the game against Portsmouth going into extra time the deadline was missed and it was held over until the following day.

He added: “There were a series of circumstances.

“I agreed to have a picture taken after the FA Cup replay against Portsmouth.

“The game went to extra-time. I said you can only have a picture if we get through

“I was in hospital with my girlfriend who is now my wife. We had our picture taken but that was after extra-time and penalties.

“That picture was meant to go in on the Tuesday but because it had gone to extra-time and penalties, it missed the deadline.

“So it went in on the Wednesday.

“The Wednesday was the anniversary of Hillsborough and that killed me.

“The local journalist for The Sun at the time was Mike Ellis, who was away on holiday and was the one person who could have said to The Sun newspaper’s office, you just can’t do that.

“So I hold my hands up. I’m still a Liverpool supporter. They are still my team.

“There is no one who hurts more than me whenever the Hillsborough thing is mentioned.

“It hurts me because I had a great time as a player at Liverpool and I’d like to think I had a great relationship with the supporters at the time, and it hurts me.

“I can only apologise and it’s something I have to live with.”

First recollection of Souness is an FA cup tie at Anfield when he was playing for Middlesbrough and he took on Tommy Smith! The guy was fearless. Rumanian hard men, Bryan Robson & Butch Wilkins together (do me a favour) even Yosser from the Blackstuff couldn't ruffle Graeme Souness in his pomp. He'll be back soon and putting upstarts like Tierry Henri back in his place.

Get well soon Graeme.

Most influential player I've ever seen.

Mentally the toughest player I've ever seen.

Best captain I've ever seen.

For younger players, think of a mixture of Xabi Alonso and Stevie Gerrard. When he played I thought we were invincible and we usually were.

This is a player who wouldv run through brick walls for liverpool football club. Grow up and move on you fucking knob heads.

Before my time but I love him regardless from videos I've seen, articles read and the passion he clearly has for the club. He made a terrible mistake talking to the Sun but you just have to watch the clip from goals on Sunday to see how much he regrets it.

It's a shame the way he is remembered by some, sadly I can see the same happening with Stevie.

Hope he gets well soon, the bloke is nails though, im sure he'll be fine!

Kills me what happened with Souey. Still love him. I just keep thinking it was just one massive brain fart. It's soured things, but he was the boz-boz when I was a kid. Only recently I was revisiting that plunge of the flag into the centre circle at Fenerbache just last week, and it still shocks me! You saw their banner for him (the Gala fans) from last year I imagine. Really nice - like Armstrong on the moon, or an album cover that I can't quite remember* [EDIT]. But WHAT!? was the man thinking there!? You fucking nut job. And they were having a pretty shit season and they all wanted him out, but BANG! President apparently gave him the biggest hug he'd ever received afterwards. But what I didn't quite realise (until this week) was that Souness was called a 'cripple' by the Fenerbache president a few days before the game, referring to his heart. Ahhh... I see. Yeah... that's Souness. That makes sense to me now. Get well soon.

EDIT * That's right, The Clash: London Calling. Wasn't a flag, but a guitar. I get there in the end.
