I was wondering if Villa would try him as a defensive midfielder. They need that desperately and they already have two veteran CDs.

Hes got the No4 shirt hes going to start for sure, but where who knows.

Another clean sheet for Danny Ward.

Maybe he can be our version of Courtois

Really good for Ward playing regularly at the top of a league. Can he roll the ball 5 yards to the right player though?  ;D

Played well for Fener for a win at the weekend to continue their unbeaten start to the season.

In other news, Tiago Ilori turned out in midfield for Villa's U-21 on Monday and put in an "impressive display"

http://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2015/09/15/liverpool-loanee-tiago-iloris-midfield-performance-for-aston-vil/

Cheers, hopefully he'll do well there and come back ready to fight for a place.

Markovic going out on loan was a shocking decision  :wanker

The only hope is he has a good year and gets a chance next year, the club writing him off would be negligence.

Granted he didn't have many opportunities - but when he had a chance, it's not like he was stellar. I'd love to be proven wrong by him - but as the time he went, I didn't see it as a great loss.

Hmmm....there was thingy....and erm....you know...

Coutinho? Henderson? Maybe not stellar, but the only two that were decent?

Maybe stellar was the wrong word to use, how about he didn't do enough to warrant all the fuss over him being loaned out?

I don't want to rehash this argument so the last thing I'll say on the topic is that he did just as much as other players that have stayed and are getting game time.  If he had a run in the team at his best position I dare say he would've done much better then he did last year.  Although, to be honest, you can say that about a lot of players that don't get played in their best position.

I'm not sure I'll ever stop being disappointed with him going on loan, he seems like more of a Rodgers type player than Ibe and has all of the basic tools needed to be a very efficient forward.

Absolutely nothing, why would anyone pay anything for him when we've ran down most of his contract and made it clear he'll never play for us? One of the worst signings ever.

This is joke rite? why do people go over the top when a player don't make it here.
Liverpool manager Rafael Benνtez admitted after the match that the manner of his side's victory had stunned him and he stated: "My problem is that I don't have words to express the things that I feel at this moment"

I have no idea why someone as cheaply priced as Luis Alberto is seen as one of the worst transfers ever.

Mind you I was a staunch defender of the gozzy eyed maestro that was Alberto Aquilani back in the day so what do I know? ;D

What I take from the 'one of the worst signings ever' is not the ability of the player but a transfer in absolute pointless terms.....and thats a fair point.

We buy a player who has ability.

Even if we only bought him as an investment to sell on we haven't handled it very well I don't think.

We won't get much for him when he does eventually move.  It seems pretty evident he won't get a chance back here.

Utterly reprehensible decision to loan him out.

Why don't Chelsea loan out Hazard while they're at it.

It seems (obviously the jury is still out on some of them) that we've done it on a few occasions, Llori being one that springs to mind although I'm hoping he'll come good........has he played for Villa yet?

Markovic is my big concern though in so far as what our intentions are for him.

Really want to see that lad come back to us next season for us to really find out if he has what it takes.

Ilori and Markovic had played first team football for Sporting and Benfica when they signed. Luis Alberto had done nothing, it was obvious from day one, he would flop. There were quotes from the Sevilla director or someone saying they were surprised how much liverpool paid for him. We sold Shelvey for a similar price and bought a clearly inferior player who had done way less in his career. Meanwhile Rodgers hailed him as the new Coutinho. €7m for a 20 yr old who hadn't played a minute of first team football.

Think he done alright really in the 12 appearances he made.

By no means a world beater, but a useful player.

But irrelevant really.   I guess the point was why were we buying a player for £7odd million who would probably never become a firm part of the first team going forward?

It seems we'd be lucky to recoup that fee (if accurate).

We're not made of money so was it good business?

Do we have a habit of doing it?

Those buys are positions that should be taken up by our youth players.  There is no point in paying 7m for a player, paying him 40k/wk or so, when we have youth players that can play the same number of minutes with the same influence in games.

Markovic looked OK in that clip of him playing in the Turkish league but nothing more. You've got to be really down in the dumps to get upset over that compilation. He was scared to take players on here, probably because most of the times he did, he ran into traffic. Him finding it easier in the slower poorer Turkish league isn't proof of anything.

If you're going to get upset about something then get upset we didn't loan him somewhere he'd find more of a challenge. We know he can play at Portugese/Turkish level, that's what we bought him off.

We played him as a wingback.  A fucking wingback.   >:(

And we were somehow 'surprised' when he didn't look like a good wingback.

And when he did play in an attacking position, he looked ok to me, and that's with the millstone of the forward he was playing with being Balotelli or Coutinho...

Even then, he scored 2 goals in 11 starts in the league.

Being a wing-back doesn't stop you from trying to run at your man. We played a winger there because we wanted him to do exactly that. On rare occasions, he did show he was capable of it, the match he won a penalty is one I can think of. But on the whole, he looked overawed by the physicality of the Prem and I think it'd be a bit of a cop-out to blame it on position. Ibe looked a bigger threat when he came into the team and he's just as unfamiliar there.

What I remember him doing a lot was the thing he actually does to get an assist in that compilation, run inside and try put someone in. Unfortunately, in the Prem it's a lot harder to do that successfully. Players are quicker, defences more compact, less space and time overall.

That's not to say that he wouldn't have improved with more game-time here, but he's got a lot of competition if he can only play in the more attacking positions, so his time playing would be limited. Staying to fight for game time probably was an option for him and he's opted for the loan.

For Barcelona B. Its not the same thing, they don't care about results even if it is a professional league. They won't sign a 30 yr old stop gap right away if you aren't upto the job. They won't change their style of play for results. And the spanish segunda is hardly a great league anyway. Pure madness the signing was.
