Need to put the foot down now. Done brilliantly to get out the first 5 with 10 points. So frustrating it's not more but at the end of the day it's a great return and we'd all have taken it before a ball was kicked.

Next 5?

Hull City (H) - 3.
Swansea City (A) - 3.
Man Utd (H) - 1.
West Brom (H) - 3.
Crystal Palace (A) - 3.

13 points is what we need to be aiming for here. However we get it, if we want to be up there at the end of the season then 13 at least is the aim for this block of 5 games.

Hmm, let's see -

So 10 points it was, inc 4 away games a fantastic start considering the opposition we've faced. Roll on the next 5!

Went for 11 but as it turns out after Burnley it could have gone really pear shaped, so happy with 10.

Considering that we've played 3 of the hardest away fixtures in the first 5 matches I'd say 10 out of 15 is exceptional.

Another 10 would do nicely, keep the 2 PPG going that you typically need for Top 4. Anything else (including smashing the Mancs) would be a nice bonus.

Infact if we were going to get 10 points, but you could choose the games in which they came from, you'd have picked the way the results went. No points conceded to Leicester, Chelsea or Arsenal and forcing Spurs into dropping 2.

Crystal Palace (A) - 0

Pardew to get his typical jammy Autumn win against us while under pressure. Hull won't be an easy 3 either I don't think. Last minute winner perhaps

Hull City (H)
Swansea City (A)
Manchester United (H)
West Bromwich Albion (H)
Crystal Palace (A)

I would say, 10-11 points from this set? Only "difficult" fixture seems to be United at home and Palace away. Maybe not losing them per say, but a couple of draws and 3 wins maybe. Hull, Swansea and West Brom as the winnable matches and United and Palace games as the draws.

Hull City - 0  - These are *exactly* the type of side we fuck up against.
Swansea City - 3 - They will try to play football, and we appear to have an actual defence now. Could thrash them on the counter
Man Utd - 1 - Mourinho will encourage their fans to make the atmosphere as toxic as possible. We haven't had a 0-0 in a big match in quite a while.
West Brom - 3 - They've got nothing about them.
Crystal Palace - 3 - Our defence can handle Benteke. On the evidence of last season, most defences can handle Benteke.

The next five games will be an indication of what we can expect for the season. We have proved we can more than match top teams, now we need to show we can beat teams who park the bus against us. So far we have only played Burnley of that ilk and that was not a success. If we get 10-12 point from these games we are up and rolling for sure and it can be a fun ride.

I'll say 10 think we might have a draw and a loss somewhere. That would be a great start to the year considering our schedule than we just need to capitalise on it in our next 5 games against the weaker teams which is where we have struggled in the last 5-10 years.

Arsenal (A) - win: they always start badly (didn't they lose against Villa last year?) so this is the best time to go to Emirates
Burnley (A) - draw: on the other hand, this is the worst time for a bigger club to travel to a promoted side. This will be a small hidden cost of the stadium renos because a home game would be a banker, and the away game later in the season likewise
Spurs (A) - draw: because that's what usually happens at WHL I think (probably wrong...)
Leicester (H) - win: we beat them at home in their title winning season and they'll be worse/we'll be better this year
Chelsea (A) - loss: they'll be tough to beat at SB this year. 1-0 home win.

8 points, good result given the balance of home/away fixtures and four tough opponents.

Reasonably good prediction, happy to be proven pessimistic but was actually feeling good about our SB chances by the time that game rolled around.

Thinking we could see another 10 in the next block, which would be a nice continuation of our early form:

Hull City (H) - win: reality has struck for Hull as we knew it would. If this were the away game I'd be fearful of another Burnley, but I think the feelgood factor from the 4-1 should carry us to a comfortable home win.
Swansea City (A) - loss: correct me if I'm wrong, but I have a feeling we always struggle there. Think this will be our blip in the next block o' five, but a blip every five games is not bad for a team at the beginning of its journey.
Man Utd (H) - win: on the other hand, I reckon we'll be well up for this one and beat them by two goals.
West Brom (H) - win: I think WBA are a big relegation chance; there seems a general air of negativity around their transfer dealings, and Berahino is still hanging around which seems unhealthy. Easy home win.
Crystal Palace (A) - draw: fucking Pardew. Benteke to score... not Jonathan.

I want this block to have at least one more point from it, so 11 to 15 for me.

10 from the first 5 is a brilliant return. Almost disappointing given Burnley, but never gonna complain having won at Arsenal and Chelsea.

As for next 5, honestly think 15 is on the cards. Though I'll be more than satisfied if we sustain 2ppg.

Optimistic me, aka heart:

Hull City (H) - 3.
Swansea City (A) - 3.
Man Utd (H) -3.
West Brom (H) - 3
Crystal Palace (A) - 3

Pessimistic me, aka head:

Hull City (H) - 3.
Swansea City (A) - 3.
Man Utd (H) -3.
West Brom (H) - 1
Crystal Palace (A) - 1.

Losing to Burnley doesn't equate to losing to Hull though mate.

Many of our supporters really think that this team who has such attacking talent and such great movement- louded by many- are going to regularly lose to the "smaller" sides?

For me- it's self-evident that we'll do well enough against the smaller sides. A lot better than we had done last season to be honest and that would be enough to jump a few places in the league table.
We already avoided a potential banana skin and dismantled a smaller side in the EFL a few weeks ago. We'd most likely lose or draw that in the recent past.

In any case- I'd go for 11 in the next set of fixtures. Draw to United and a loss to Palace or vice versa.

I'd go with:

11 points - decent. be nice to be unbeaten.
12 points - good (as long as the loss isn't to united)
13 points - very good (especially if the draw isn't to united)
15 points - perfect

With the football we have played and the results so far, there is no hiding from the fact that we are title challengers. We are up against some seriously sorry teams in the next five. Must aim for 15 points.

15.

If it wasn't for the Burnley fuckup and the somehow drawn game at Spurs, we'd be top of the league. This is our season!

Our opponents will have seen enough of our attacking prowess to know we're a different animal this season. Teams in previous seasons who had a right go at us (Palace, Swansea etc.) and got results may be less inclined to do so now. And park the bus usually only works as long as it stays 0-0. A lot has been said about our 'weak' back line but I think we've look pretty solid at the back, and looking better with  every passing game. Ok not perfect, but v Chelsea and Arsenal we closed out the game comfortably.

15 points. :)

I'm gonna say 13 points. 4 wins and a draw but anything above 10 points is pretty decent.

Leicester - 3
Chelsea - 0

Hard start so keeping to 2 points a game will be difficult, if we can then great.

That'll do

People getting a bit carried away. We've started well but these next games are games we usually struggle in. Lost to the likes of Burnley, Watford away, lost to Palace home, drew with West Brom. Swansea won't be easy but they're the most footballing side. Mourinho will be hard to beat in a big game.

Hull - 3
Swansea - 3
Man Utd - 0
West Brom - 1
Crystal Palace - 3

14 points. No problem.

waste of time these threads. so difficult to guess so not going to.

The next game (league) is the most important for me now, we just need to post as many points on the board as possible. As we traditionally get stronger in the 2nd half of the season. With no Europe we really could push, we really need to just keep the pace with the top (4-5 points) and you never know what might happen.
