Nice one Wyl, much appreciated.

No problem at all, it's a good opportunity to practice.

<a href="https://www.youtube.com/v/O7JGla2QAOs" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" class="bbc_link bbc_flash_disabled new_win">https://www.youtube.com/v/O7JGla2QAOs</a>

The translator is pretty terrible on this, he misses out quite a lot of detail in the questions and answers I thought.  The last question is interesting and he doesn't go into it at all.

Journo: People say in Germany that Augsburg is like the Anfield of the Bundesliga. What do you think of that?

Jürgen: I never yet heard that to be honest :D

Woman in the Crowd: It's true!

Jürgen: Really? I'm trying to think about it. Why? The Atmosphere or what? Woah. Maybe because when we've won here, we never get to witness the great atmosphere :D Sorry, I never read about that. If so, OK there are worse insults, it's a compliment. Anfield is cool, Anfield is a cool place to be. All those who can be there next week can look forward to it.

Journo: How is it hearing "You'll Never Walk Alone"? Do you get goose pimples?

Jürgen: Yeah, that is special, it's good. It's very traditional. Shankly and his colleagues have moved on but it's still real football. Yeah, it's really good, I've had a lot of luck with my choice (of club).

There's also an earlier question from Sky Germany, where the journo says it's on behalf of his English colleagues and could Klopp answer in English. Klopp says no, they have plenty of opportunity to ask him stuff in England.

If you've ever done consecutive interpreting, you'll know how hard it is to retain everything that's said, particularly if the speaker rambles on a bit. Much easier to be precise when translating a transcript or from playback. I think he got the gist of Klopp's comments, although I agree he could have perhaps rendered a bit more of the last answers, as you've said.

You're right, I was a bit harsh in saying it was terrible and certainly wouldn't volunteer myself for doing the consecutive interpreting job! That said, I thought it might be interesting for those here to know a bit more detail on that last question, since I found it a bit touching.

Especially with our Mr Klopp :-) who often says the unexpected, but says a lot of stuff very quickly changing from idea to idea mixing gravitas with humor like a magician taking you one way then the other. Proper tough job keeping up with him!

Example - Tony Barrett asks 'what werent you happy about' , Mr Klopp gives a big answer then turns to the translator with a smile that he probably gives to his players..

Plus the fact that Klopp's natural aversion to giving anything to the rats from the press means that he does say pretty much the same thing in several different ways. The interpreter's on a hiding to nothing, as he doesn't want to seem to be repeating himself and it's hard to remember precisely which formulation Klopp has used this time to say the same thing. And of course when he does say something out of the ordinary (like the phrase about "die Trauben hängen hoch in Porto" (lit. the grapes hang high in Porto), by which he means that it won't be easy to achieve anything in Porto, the opposite of low-hanging fruit), it's difficult to know exactly what he's trying to express and hard to find a suitable analogy in English. And finally, the bugger then goes and picks you up on it. Maybe "The bar is set high at Porto", but try coming up with that on the spur of the moment with everyone thinking you're a mug and Klopp waiting to pounce!

Sorry, probably wrong thread, but I always feel I have to hoist a flag for the poor bloody interpreter.

first time seeing how he got injured as well.

Thats some motivational video right there. Amazing the amount of sheer hard work needed to recover. Very easy to get discouraged.

Still hoping he can get a few minutes this season if the Medical staff and Klopp thinks he is ready.

So why would he talk in English? with an American accent?

Anyway. to the people that organise these pressers. Why cant they give the journos a mic. Can barely hear the questions being asked. This happens time and time again, and  makes us look amateurish
