Thinking of that Nevilles LP reminded me of this, the Nevilles also cover it on Yellow Moon.....but this....the anger.

And you can't visit NOLA and not have these on your playlist. Their Yellow Moon LP is  must have for anyone-everyone's collection..a sublime LP.Other than the second vid all  the below are from that LP,

Used to play it all the time when it came out.

Haven't replaced it on CD - which I must now remedy.

Incidentally Gene does an amazingly addictive version of Tell It Like it is. Must see if it's on You Tube

And thanks for being our token Delta/Chicago Blues Appalachian American dave lad!!!

Much appreciated!

That's the music I listened to as a kid. My mates dad was-is my mentor musically. He's an old merchant seaman and he's jammed in clubs all over the world and was kind enough to educate me musically. He is the reason I grew up listening to black music primarily...and it's still my first love. Unlike most kids my age I didn't listen to Bowie and Slade,..Alice Cooper..I was listening to Curtis,Millie Jackson, she's rude.... ;D Gil, Esther Phillips, Claudia Lennear, who you'l probably know as the inspiration for Brown Sugar and Lady Grinning Soul...and whom I still lust after. ;D

As I got older I was able to appreciate the Blues more because of Danny explaining to me what the Blues actually...more than just a musical genre....it did take him a good few years till I was able to was able to understand and appreciate what he was trying to educate me in the beauty-the brilliance of Jazz, especially Bop.

I can never repay him for what he did and does...he introduced me to a band a few years back, Snarky Puppy-a fine instrumental-fusion band..the man's in his 80's and still knows.

  • We all Live in a Red and White Kop

Was the guitarist Tom Evans [RIP] or Joey molland. Utterly tragic what went on. I've got the book somewhere. Hard to stomach how they were ripped off.

Spoke to my brother over the lads in Badfinger Timbo. he can't remember which one he spoke too as he knew both lads from playing on the same bill in another group at all the old Liverpool venues, What surprised me is he reckons I used to and go and watch them regularly myself when they played on the Litherland town hall  which he also played often.  checking it out, Am not sure about both of them but think hes right about Tom Evans, he was in a group called The Calderstones  they do  definitely ring a bell though.
It might take our producers five minutes to find 60 economists who feared Brexit and five hours to find a sole voice who espoused it.
“But by the time we went on air we simply had one of each; we presented this unequal effort to our audience as balance. It wasn’t.”

I saw this guy 2 months ago.

He's got 100 years of bluesmen in his locker and you can hear it.

Then listen to Lonnie Mack, SRV's mentor (not his brother)

You won't hear anyone in this thread disputing the Big 'O' s greatness mate. As for the best ever - can there ever be such a thing? Seen him at The Empire in '63 - supporting The Beatles. It was a year or so before Pretty Women. His big closer was 'It's Over'. Hit the killer notes without moving his feckin lips.

 ;D
The Black and White Night gig, by Christ there was some talent on stage with him.

Here's another from the gig.

To me, it is perfection.

Ohh and something else, I have been reading the posts about The Faces.

I am willing to bet my Dad is the number one Faces / Rod Stewart fan.

He seen The Faces a number of times in the 70's, nearly all at NEWCASTLE ODEON where his Grandad was Manager for quite some time.  Back then Bands played at the Odeon and my Dads Grandad got him free tickets.  Not just for Faces gigs either, The Who and others including bands who were popular at the time, SMOKIE and all the rest of them.

He's seen Rod more than 20 times over the years and a few years ago I went with him to see Rod Stewart and his band at Newcastle Arena.  I reckon I was the youngest person in there by 20 years, at least.   The music was excellent though, there's some very talented guys backing Rod Stewart.

Roy Harper...I'd forgotten about him.

Had an older mate who was well into him around 70/71, I worked with him in a cafe/restaurant on Saturdays in a part time job the way you did back in those days, who used to lend me albums by Harper saying I really should get into them.

All I can remember from them is that there was some track on one of his albums, forgotten what, where he stops singing and informs the engineer that there's a spider crawling on his microphone.

I think Harper was one of those guys around that time who everyone had great respect for, obviously a very talented guy, but who never quite made the breakthrough to huge recognition that perhaps he deserved.

Anyway, I loved the noises going on in the background on in these records I remember from the light programme when I was about 5 or 6...vaguely, though not strictly, almost onomatopoeia (I've always wanted to use that word on here...)

The Band covered 'Ain't Got no Home on Moondog matinee. Never did get round to listening to the original. I'm correcting that right now. Superb!!

P's fond memories of his dad singing the Frogman classics has given me the same idea re my arl fella. God rest his soul as he listens to these two songs which were his favourites. he knew every word of each, bless him. I've still got the 78's upstairs somewhere.

He was a rascal but could belt out a tune, either Clarence or Fats at the drop of a hat...got me chuckling now, mate. Never realised till later how much of an influence he had on my ear. Eclectic, from Blues to Beatles to Bacharach and all stations in between, record player always going between him and me ma and her country.......

Great cover that from The Band. So much good music I've been listening to on this thread. Good shout, pal, as per....

What a fantastic thread certainly brought back a lot of memories, like everyone else in this thread i'm a huge Faces fan so it's always a pleasure to see them get the recognition they so richly deserve, same to for Little Feat and Badfinger.

My own contributions have been piqued by a couple of other posters, never did i think i'd see a mention for the overlooked Pete Dello (he of Honeybus fame) and while most only ever remember "I Can't Let Maggie Go" it's actually one of their less impressive songs, check out the two beauties posted below, "Do I Still Figure In Your Life" was the single that preceded "Maggie" and is an infinitely more impressive slice of baroque pop than the more well known hit, naturally it flopped! "Story" was another baroque pop gem from 1970 that also flopped, there's a couple of albums worth of this quality but no one's ever heard them.

Someone mentioned Lindisfarne a few pages back too and that reminded me of another Scottish band who are seemingly only known for their one big hit, the admittedly superb "Stuck In The Middle With You", however Stealers Wheel were so much more than that song, here is a wonderful slice of folk from Rafferty before he went all aor with "Baker Street".
