Alonso 'Legend' in some eyes for THAT pen  ;) One of the main reasons for Rafa's eventual departure, had Rafa kept faith and he stayed and played as he had been, would have earned genuine 'legendery' status.

Babbel is a good shout, world class right full struck down in his prime.

Obviously Torres, best striker in the world to worlds biggest flop in say 48 months?  Sure we did well out of it, but give me Torres in full flight or £50m, it's Torres every time!

Kevin Sheedy.  Didn't really do it for us, and had to mave to Everton to get a regular shirt.

That said, who was he going to oust, in what was arguably the best midfield in England, Europe, and arguably the world, at that time.

At that time. Ray Kennedy?

That's why he couldn't get into Liverpool.

Although Sheedy was quality.

As a lad I remember having very high hopes for Neil Mellor who was even breaking Owen's records coming through the academy

Also...Bellamy if he'd have stayed.

Collymore could've been a legend if he wasn't such a bellend.
I think we'd have won the league if we'd sold Keane to Man United.

Always struggled with Murphy. I really really wanted to love the lad.

And then, in my lucid moments, I'd remind myself "we'll never win owt' with Murphy in center midfield"

I think hes good for Fulham.

If circumstances had been different, Brad Friedel could well have been a real Liverpool legend, right up there with Clemence and Grobbelaar. And John Aldridge too come to think of it.

Hes a legend isn't he?

Think he went on to run a pub somewhere in Cheshire.?

I remember a player called Avi Cohen.

Think he was here in 1980/81. Was in the Kop for his debut.

He had a boss song, just cant recall it, but the Kop bounced when we sang it.

Think his lad played for Bolton recently (although, who hasn't)

Avi was killed Christmas before last in a motorbike accident. He wasn't a great player for us though, not what I remember.

Could have been.

When Sir Bob came in, he played a young lad by the name of Phil Neal which sort of limited his time.

Pretty sure iirc that something happened behind the scenes but would have to check with me Da on that... or you aul bastards on here..

Remember Avi Cohen scoring an own goal and then a goal for us both down the Kop end... not sure if it was Villa or Tottenham but it was the day we won the league... no, it was Villa (1980)

Strange one Ziege.

I saw him at Boro and thought he was immense.

Think we paid 5 mill back in the day. I thought he would be immense for us.

He was pony. God knows why.

i was the same i was buzzing when we signed him cuz he was quality, i think he was better going forward than defending though, and houllier liked tactically disciplined players so maybe thats one of the things that done for him

Craig Johnston remains a legend for me.

Great player, overlooked and forgotten.

Yes he went early for his family.   But that fella had Scouse in him. Never followed the path, did his own thing.

After retiring, didnt he invent the 'Predator' footy boot or something?

Fantastic interview with him on Keys and Gray available to download free on iTunes podcasts. An inspirational listen if you missed it the first time.

And yes, he did.

"So Bierhoff’s got a short time to press his claims, now that the other two strikers who started the match have both been taken off……Kuntz."

Peter Beardsley. Arguably he was a legend but to only get 4 seasons out of him and sell him when he still had years left at the highest level was pretty criminal.

I never understood why we sold him when we did.

Javier Mascherano. And here's a controversial one, Stan Collymore. The most gifted Liverpool striker I've seen.

On a slightly different twist. Off the pitch.  Controversially, I'll throw in Matt Busby.

Played for us from 1936-41, before the war intervened, and admittedly at the back end of his playing carreer, but was offered the assistant managers job in late 1944, before choosing the United manager's job

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matt_Busby

I wonder how the post war years of 1945-59 might have played out with Busby as assistant manager, and possibly manager after George Kay.

Now thats one for the parallel universe theorists.  :wave

Torres is the obvious one. Personally, I think Xabi already has a spec of legendary status.

Arbeloa is a top shout. Solid player who I think most would appreciate more if they'd seen him live in the flesh. Elusively quick and very seldom let his opponent get in behind him. In some respects I wish he was still our right back given our solid centre half pairing at present.

to be honest there are a lot of ex players that could be enjoying legendary status if they had of simply moved on/retired or kept some dignity instead of selling themselves to the media in one way or the other.

I think Kewell could have been great. He was a brilliant player but injury prone and crippled by misdiagnosed injuries.

Aquilani is another I think could have been excellent for us.

Torres was prett much on the verge already before he left.

Alonso had he stayed had the talent too.

Stretching it now but Mark Wright maybe showed what might have been in a period of good form back from injury, under Evans. England recalled him for Euro 96 but injuries followed.

Nicky Tanner had found his form before injury cut short his career. Who knows!

I also think Bellamy would have been a fantastic player had he stayed.
Gary Neville is a c*nt - FACT!!!
