Merseyside Police can confirm that detectives are investigating a shooting yesterday afternoon (Thursday, 15 November) in Maghull in which a 19-year-old man was injured.
Emergency services were called to Hall Lane just after 4.10pm. A 19-year-old man suffered an injury to the head, thought to be caused by a shotgun. He was taken to hospital by ambulance where his wound is being treated - it is not thought to be life threatening.
Officers believe the victim was travelling in a car on Hall Lane, when it was in collision with a dark coloured Mercedes. The victim then got out of the car and was shot at by one of the occupants of the Mercedes.
The shooting followed an incident earlier in the day, when at around 3pm in Moorhey Road, Maghull, damage was caused to a dark coloured Mercedes.
Officers are keen to trace the dark coloured Mercedes car and would urge anyone in the Moorhey Road area at 3pm or Hall Lane area after 4pm, who may have seen this car, to come forward.
Detective Chief Superintendent Paul Richardson said: "This type of behaviour is clearly reckless and we are fortunate that no-one else was injured.
"I'm sure the local community would agree that this type of behaviour cannot be tolerated.
"I would urge anyone who has any information about either incident or the Mercedes car, to get in contact so we can bring those responsible to justice."
The investigation is in its early stages, however officers do not believe the incident was in any way related to the nearby high school.
The area has been cordoned off for further examination and patrols have been stepped up in the area. House-to-house enquiries are also on going.
Officers will be speaking with witnesses and CCTV from the area will also be examined.
Officers would urge anyone with any information about this incident to contact officers on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
