Listened to the press conference. He'll be gunning for the league this year, will be fascinating but personally i hope he falls flat on his arse. Not like he could claim much credit if they did win it, see RDM, and Rafa has said it himself when asked about the job Mourinho did there .. "the owner has done a fantastic job"
It will be a magnificent achievment if he wins the league. How could it not be? ???
Oh you English are SO superior aren't you? Well, would you like to know where you'd be without US the good old U.S. of A. to protect you? I'll tell you. The smallest fucking province in the Russian Empire, that's where! If it wasn't for us, you'd all be speaking German, singing, "Deutschland, Deutschland Uber Alles!"

'We' lost to Sao Paulo. But then he said 'we' won it later too.

We've won 18 titles, 5 European Cups, 7 FA Cups, but today must be the greatest victory of all.

That was Rory Smith from The Times, who wrote Rafa's book. They're both mates so I'm sure it wasn't a dig, more as a reference to it.
Just a subtle joke I suppose. Didn't know it was Rory.

It's ridiculous that journos are so shocked and "fuming" by Di Matteo's short tenure and quick sacking, yet they are totally OK with the same treatment Rafa Benitez got at Inter Milan.

The journos clearly don't like Rafa, and he will have a hard time pleasing everybody.

Xavi Valero is joining the analysis team, so will not be their goalkeeping coach.
Torres once credited him for giving him information on how opposition goalkeepers react to one-on-ones. He said he was a big reason for his goals at Liverpool. So nothing to do with Gerrard's telepathy.

Hasnt he appointed the great Bolo Zenden in some coaching role?  Strange decision if true

Makes a lot of sense. He (Rafa) might only be there for six months. Bolo is an ex-Chelsea player, who is extremely multilingual and was often used by Rafa during his time here to connect with incoming players due to his personality and linguistic skills. The "good cop" to Rafa's "bad cop"

I presume that is what his job will be there. Analysing opposition goalkeepers to find their faults. So more of an attacking coach if anything  :)

I dont begrudge him but feel terribly disappointed.

This past year has amplified the tribalism within our fan-base, and rightly so. Its just hard watching him manage that disgusting club.

I have lost a lot of affinity for the man. I can understand his choice but when you pull on a rival's shirt, you cant be viewed in the same light.

I thought that Rafa's dignity would prevent him from joining Chelsea.
Unfortunately, he turned out to be a mercenary like the rest of the lot.

What is he supposed to do? Sit waiting in house playing chess all day hoping we come knocking on his door? He wants to stay England. This is the best opportunity, he would have at a club that will have expectations for what he is looking for himself (to win trophies). This is a platform to give him leverage for his next job.

I have lost a lot of affinity for the man. I can understand his choice but when you pull on a rival's shirt, you cant be viewed in the same light.

By that logic, did we view Kenny in a different light when he was managing Blackburn? Would United fans view Dennis Law in a different light, because he played for City and scored the goal that relegated them? I don't think so in either case. Some individuals manage to become above that due to what they accomplished. Rafa will always be a legend at Liverpool, but he needs to get back into the game.

ps: I also hope that nobody is posting in this thread while we are playing against Young Boys.
