This lad (Matheus Biteco), who I'd watched playing for Brazil U20s a while ago was on the plane. He was a former Gremio youth product (much like our Lucas Leiva), on loan from Hoffenheim.

From what I read, his brother plays for Gremio, and tweeted - without knowing of the tragedy - hours ago, he was waiting for his brother to be home soon.

Was thinking this too, I'd imagine we'll have a minute's silence.
Rafa Benitez: "I'll always keep in my heart the good times I've had here, the strong and loyal support of the fans in the tough times and the love from Liverpool. I have no words to thank you enough for all these years and I am very proud to say that I was your manager. Thank you so much once more and always remember: You'll never walk alone."

Very sad news.

On a side note, it's been confirmed this was the same plane (CP-2933) that carried Argentina's international side in the last round of qualifiers a few weeks ago.

Atletico Nacional had also chartered this plane. Couple teams in Bolivia too. Scary to ponder.

Atlético Nacional have asked CONMEBOL to award the Copa Sudamericana title to Chapecoense.

I think that would be the right thing to do.

An awful tragedy and I hope all of the survivors pull through.

We are united in our love for our football teams and it would be nice for a short tribute ahead of our next match.

Speaking of Argentina, the national team was on a flight on the plane in question just a month ago. Perspective.

Strange comment. Because their lives are more important?

RIP, what a tragedy.
The Argentinian national team must have chills on their back just about now, as they used the same plane only days before.

Sounds like a weather issue as much as it was an issue with the plane.

Atlético Nacional have asked CONMEBOL to award the Copa Sudamericana title to Chapecoense.

What a wonderful gesture.

Hopefully clubs help them out as much as those did after the Munich disaster. If we have any South American youth players I wouldn't be adverse to sending them over.

I made the decision to never fly again a few years ago as I am terrified of it. Disasters like this really hit me hard. Just the thought of helplessness that the passengers must have had.

And the fans of the Club.. God. Just put yourselves in their shoes and imagine that the Liverpool players were on board. Absolutely horrific.

Hopefully those that have somehow survived are able to lead full and healthy lives, both physically and mentally.

I read that two goalkeepers are amongst the survivors, presumably they were sat next to each other?
And if the rain stops, and everything's dry.. she would cry, just so I could drink tears from her eyes.

That's them celebrating their win over San Lorenzo in the semi final. Danilo, the keeper that was originally reported as alive but passed away from injuries, pulled of a match-saving last minute save: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-nx9aWYypDk (the commentator for this game was also on the plane and did not survive)
