Lads, its not an official prequel anyway, so you shouldn't the same visual cues exactly from the other films.

Could be related to one of the unanswered questions raised from the first film when they found the giant ship and that odd-look giant humanoid alien. My guess is that it's going to be the telling of the genesis of the Xenomorph created by that race, and that the giant head is some kind of artifact related to their culture.

I'm not one to be picky and get all pissy about production images, but I can see J-Mc's concern over that still. A lot can hinge on a film's overall aesthetic, especially when it comes to sci-fi. You want it to be grounded in modern-day thinking, not the camp B-movie style design of the 50's, which is now obsolete, that those costumes comes across as. If they are going to fuck about with that, it makes you wonder what else they are going to mess about with. The Devil is in the details.

See the suits in that are more akin to what we'd imagine what a space suit of the near future would be realistically like.

Anyway, it's just talk about design. Doesn't mean fuck all for what the overall film could turn out like, does it?

Fuck off Paul (Oddball, not the other one! ;D)

I suits look shite, won't make it a bad film by any means however, with being a huge fan of the Alien films, i'm disappointed that they don't seem to be keeping with the gritty nature in the costumes as seen in previous films.

Didn't say it'll make or break the film in any way, bit of an over reaction there ;)

:D

It all depends on the context of the crew though. The original movie they were a mining ship, so their overalls looked gritty and the kind you'd wear doing manual labour. Does anyone know what the crew of the Prometheus actually are doing in this movie? They may be more diplomatic, and not a manual labour crew, hence the smarter expensive threads?

Fair point, still think the suits look a little to clean and 'shiny' though, they just need to desaturate them a bit and they'd look spot on.

and there is a LOT of CGI. the sets look sweet and theres probably more practical stuff than in a lot of films.... but yeah. its by no means all in camera

fair play - i was over egging - but i wanted to make the point that they've built mega-sets not just green screened it all in.

its never really the same but i'm all for a mixed economy approach ;D

this is an educated guess but one of the key features of the original alien is that this a post-kubrik post-punk take on sci-fi.  nothing is gleaming white optimistic any more indeed the captial expenditure needed for spaceships means an operational life of at least 500 years so we see ripley and her crew on a big, dirty rust bucket.  with them in deep freeze it doesn't really matter.  given that prometheus is a prequel the first explorers of the planet could well have been sent from a more optimistic time ie the years before mega-corp took over all things space related.  it would be a nice contextualising detail but i suppose we will just have to wait and see.

Official trailer should hopefully be up within the next week or so, seeing as a leaked version has been doing the rounds.

It's terrible quality, but genuine.

anyone else see similarities between the prometheus poster and the original alien? dark and smokey? i was kid when the alien movie came out and i remember the cinema listings showing the picture of the "egg" with the tagline "In space noone......" and remembering that it looked scary as hell. and the film seemed to run for months and months. it fucking haunted me, and that was just the yellow blurry egg thingy in the paper!

Got a really really good feeling about this movie. Just from the pirate job of the trailer I've seen and from the bits and pieces in that preview of the trailer you get the feeling he's got the style spot on, and just those few glimpses look 70s/80s styled. The poster is fucking brilliant aswell.

That teaser for the trailer has got me excited.

The sound effects are back, the dark eery spacious corridors are back and Alien looks like it's making a return to the horror francise.

After seeing that teaser, my fears that it's going to have a cheesy B movie feel have well and truly been put to rest.

Awesome. Although there should be a new rule that not every epic movie can use the Inception horn sound, or any variants.
