I hope people aren't expecting Sturridge to be the answer to our problems.

He would be a huge part of the solution:

1) pace - can run off the last defender
2) movement that is unparalleled in the squad - will pull players away and help free up Benteke
3) clinical finishing

- and yes we know it's simply all about staying healthy.

mirror are saying he wont be ready for the united game

http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/liverpool-blow-manchester-united-trip-6370183
That article makes no sense to me.

He is set to return to training tomorrow which means he can't feature in a game in 8 days time ???

Then again it is a David Maddock piece. I should have guessed :D

Sounds about right to me. Usually after coming back from such a long lay off, a player would need at least a couple of weeks of full training before being considered for matches.

Something like this?

------------------Migs---------------
----Gomez----Skrtel----Sakho---
-Clyne---Hendo-Milner---Moreno-
---------------Coutinho------------
---------Benteke--Sturridge-----

Bench: Bogdan, Lovren, Lucas, Can, Firmino, Ibe, Ings.

I'd go:

------------------Migs---------------
-Clyne---Skrtel----Sakho---Enrique
-----------------Lucas--------------
----------Hendo------Milner--------
---------------Coutinho------------
---------Benteke--Sturridge-----

Firmino or Ibe in for Lucas for the easier home games.

This will be unpopular for a very obvious reason but I would go:

                    Mignolet

Clyne       Skrtel     Sakho     Gomez

                Lucas   Milner
Ibe/firmino                         Henderson

Yeah, can see why it would be unpopular.

Indeed.

I would like to see what Benteke and Sturridge could do together, but I don't think we could play them both and also have Coutinho in the hole.

I really think it would be worth a shot to see how it works.

I mean the ultra-idealist in me wants Can over Milner or Henderson but maybe against only the very weakest teams. Definitely a bit more experimental.

Can hasn't done nearly enough to warrant a start aead of Milner or Henderson. Its questionable how good he will become to start with and as such Milner and Henderson should without doubt start ahead of him.

Yeah, like I said, it's idealist based on the fact he's more naturally gifted technically and could offer things on the offensive end that the other two simply can't (mainly offering penetration going forward from midfield by being able to beat a man). On the other hand of course, there's no way he offers the legs and lungs that Henderson does.

Milner and Henderson also provide something more tangible in terms of end product, whether it be crossing, final passes and goals. Can may or may not get there but at the moment he is a peripheral figure.

They have provided that because they've had the opportunity to provide that. Can has played like 3 games for us in his best position as a forward thinking midfielder. I'd expect him to more than hold his own on the final product end, given he looks as if he has excellent striking technique and has the ability to work himself with the ball into dangerous positions.

Cant wait to see him upfront with Firmino & Coutinho behind.

Benteke in the squad is also a great insurance option & helps Rodgers easy Sturridge back in slowly unlike last time.

Danny needs time to return to fitness before we can even consider starting him, but at least the hip surgery should keep his injuries from recurring. Relax people, he'll be back.  :)

He will be, in 2016.  He'll be eased into it late November at earliest. He's the sort of player who won't play unless he feels 100%.  Assuming he doesn't get injured again it will be January before you see him at his best.

Personally I don't think we'll see him.  I think he's unfortunately one of those players who is constantly injured.  You may see a couple of cameos in between injuries.  But that's it.

I'd be surprised if it's late November. He's been doing ball work for a while now, and fitness training before that, if he starts contact this week as is rumoured then don't think it'll be nearly 3 months before he starts being eased in.

no point in him playing til he's sharp, he needs to be handled with care

I bet stuff like playing him against Chelsea after he hadn't trained all week in that 1-1 game etc haven't helped him with injuries.

Your outlook seems too pessimistic. I don't think 'easing in' would start that late. He has already in training (both fitness and with the ball). I would think if his recovery continues on the straight line path without any more hiccups - by November he would be starting regularly.

If I was the manager I'd give him 10 minutes. If not for anything just to up his confidence. Let him know that we don't feel he'll be crooked for ever.

And God knows we need some life in our XI.

I'd be fuming if I was Ings or Origi to be overlooked ahead of Sturridge for the game this weekend.

There's match fitness then there's match fitness.

I'd rather Sturridge played in the U21's game tomorrow, and then got himself prepared for a cameo vs Norwich at Anfield on 20 Sep.

Let's not go doing something stupid here.
