And I don't think we looked solid at the back at all against Bournemouth or Arsenal. Both teams struck the post and had numerous chances to score due to defensive lapses and mistakes. Only against Stoke that we didn't look as threatened (even though Johnson could've scored as well).

Shots on goal =/= real chances. Bournemouth barely troubled us, resorting to shooting from outside the box (that post being a result of one. Similar against Arsenal where the Sanchez post and the Giroud save was about it for them - and they usually dominate and create tonnes of chances at home - instead, we had had more and better chances.

It's easy to be negative if that's what you're setting out to be.

I'd love to see what he and Sakho would do as the CB pairing. But that's never gonna happen in a million years with Rodgers' blind trust in Sktrel and Lovren.

Think Ilori deserves a shot at CB before Gomez at CB.

The manager stuck with a defence that has looked particularly solid, something which as constantly being levelled at him as not being good enough.

I didn't particularly think a right footed CB playing at LB was needed at home to West Ham yesterday, but to suggest that the defence he put out was due to 'blind faith' is just plain wrong.

The back 4 Rodgers selected yesterday was based on form and 3 clean sheets in a row, blind faith doesn't come in to it.

Correct. We win yesterday no matter how ugly and I guarantee no one would be complaining or making a point of this.
It's true to say that if Shankly had told us to invade Poland we'd be queuing up 10 deep all the way from Anfield to the Pier Head.

Without seeing them in training it's hard to really argue for Ilori as he's not played a game for us yet. Ilori's apparently been alright on his two loans, but Gomez has had preseason and competitive games for us where he's done well, that surely counts for more.

2 clean sheets against Bournemouth and Arsenal on the back of two errors from the referees, Bournemouth scored a perfectly good goal as did Arsenal. Such a flawed statement, we literally fluked our way to those.

Apart from the time when they scored from a corner off Lovren's mistake only for the referee to incorrectly rule it out. I say incorrectly ruled out because if it was us that got a goal ruled out like that I would've been livid (like that goal in 2007-08 at home to Stoke).

I could be super positive too but I'd rather be realistic.

Ilori is older, more experienced, did well on loan when he was fit.

I like Gomez, think he is a good options through out the back four.  But if I was Ilori and saw someone leap frog me, before getting a chance myself, I'd be miffed.

Tougher game for him, but same can be said for all the defenders. He still looked assured throughout. And as he develops i look forward to seeing him at centre half.  Pace, calm on the ball, good awareness and stays on his feet. He (and sakho) are the type of player we need defensively. Strong, solid, assured and positive. We need to play positively from the back with a reasonably high line to press the game into the opposition half.

He's not going to be utterly consistant at his age, and with his current level of experience.  It's a shocking dereliction of duty from the manager/transfer committee that he's effectively our only trusted left back though.

I'd think that is true across the board. The whole team needs much more discipline in the offensive third.

Pretty sure he doesn't read RAWK ;)

Plus he's a right footed player playing on the left, so cutting back inside sets the ball up on his right foot for the cross. He needs to work on crossing with his left foot to go down the flank.

He was always going to be inconsistent so I can't say I was surprised by the bad performance.  Moreno should start for us from here on in though.  Gomez at LB is too defensive for the team that we should aspire to be.  Playing a CB at FB makes sense if the other FB is attack minded, but Clyne is more of a balanced FB and does not add enough to our attack.  It makes us very easy to defend against right now with no real width on either side of the pitch.

On top of that our quality centrally isn't good enough to play this way.  We need to open the pitch up more.. That said I actually fully expect the back 4 to remain unchanged.  Brendan will probably say three clean sheets in a row, one bad game doesn't cancel all that.. It's the wrong decision in my opinion.

Well we have now seen his defensive abilities when he played so well against arsenal, and also his offensive limitations being a right footed center half playing left back against a team parking the bus.  I think maybe he would be best used game specific?  Also, didn't do well for the first goal.

Obviously with that being said he is a young lad and can grow massively which is great for us in the future.  I just wonder short term when we need someone a bit more fluent on the left against teams sitting back maybe play Moreno?

I must say that I'm very impressed with what I've seen so far. He looks very poised, which is always good. Lets not dump all of our hopes and fears on his shoulders at the age of 18, and lets give him a chance to develop, without overhyping him because we're desperate, and then turning on him when he can't immediately live up to our insane expectations.

That really does suck
If he's being asked to head the ball too frequently - which isn't exactly his specialty - it could affect his ear and cause an infection. Especially if the ball hits him on the ear directly.

Dortmund wanted him in the summer so no doubt Klopp knew of him last season. Hopefully comes back stronger.

Usually with the modern science they do fix things a proper.
Also he is young, will heal fast. It no longer is like a few years back when I think Owen had the acl rupture and lost almost all his pace.
