Very happy with this. £12.5 million for an England international? That is some kind of black magic type deal we've pulled off there. Welcome, Nathaniel*.

People need to get their head round £90k not being a particularly massive wage anymore, unfortunately.

I mean bloody Ashley Young is said to be close to agreeing a new £120k a week deal at United.

Yeah with the new TV deal, it's the £50k/£60k of a few years ago; i.e. pretty much bottom of the scale for a first XI player at our level.

Slightly above average for a club of our size I'd say, I wouldn't call it high.

Hang on mate, lets put this into perspective Coutinho is on £70k. If I were him seeing these deals I'd be asking for more since he's probably our best player

Excellent signing, quality leaning, Just need a striker and we've done outstanding  (not to mention quick!) business this summer.
Glad I'm not a Southampton fan, I'd absolutely hate Liverpool by now.

If they don't now, they will next time we visit them for Ward-Prowse...

Same argument could be said that Sterling wants £150k a week, so £90k is right for Clyne.

People are saying that the price tag is low, people are saying that his wages are high. Maybe the club can justify the wages by the total spend being similar to what they expected (albeit a higher price tag and lesser wages), which is how free transfers get such good wages?

We miss out on Sanchez and criticise them for not shelling out. Clyne gets 90k a week and its too high. I daresay if Coutinho's deal was being renegotiated this Summer he'd be on a lot more than that.

I'd say "You're on 90k a week, go and prove to us that you're worth it"
"My idea was to build Liverpool into a bastion of invincibility. Napoleon had that idea and he conquered the bloody world. And that's what I wanted, for Liverpool to be untouchable. Coutinho signed that at an odd time, I think. Hopefully we've learned something from the Sterling situation and have built in, or will discuss, regular increments with good bonuses. Anyway... in danger of going way off tangent.

Agree the fee is fine. But I reckon so as not to piss off Coutinho, who is clearly the future of the club, within 6 months we should give him an improvement on his current 80-90k contract. You don't want there to be any ill-feeling, etc.

I think Clyne be a great signing and quite pleased we got this done. I'm sure Glen cost more, if only we paid extra to get Dani Alves eh...

Anyway. I think he is best right back in the league so very happy with this signing. Worth £20m, so guess you can excuse the high wage

Honestly Coutinho's contract is an insane bargain.

I'd argue paying 90k a week to Clyne is more insane but players wages are exploding this summer and will continue to over the next couple of years
