If you're making your own way to Italy for our Champions League clash with Juventus then please read the following safety information from Turin Police.
MEETING POINT FOR SUPPORTERS TRAVELLING INDEPENDENTLY

It takes about 40 minutes to go by bus to the Stadium from the town centre. From around 5pm free public transport will be available for Liverpool Supporters who travel independently. The public transport will leave from the meeting point in Corzo Lungo Dora, near to the River.

WE ADVISE YOU TO REACH THE MEETING POINT BY 5:30pm IN ORDER TO USE THE FREE TRANSPORT. YOU ARE KINDLY REQUESTED TO BE THERE ON TIME IN ORDER TO FACILITATE THE ENTRY INTO THE STADIUM BEFORE THE BEGINNING OF THE MATCH

SUPPORTERS TRAVELLING BY CAR

Supporters travelling by car to Turin will be able to share the parking area reserved for the Liverpool Supporters Coaches. This is secured by the Police and is situated opposite the entrance gate to sector EST3 (Liverpool Supporters Area).

SUPPORTERS TRAVELLING BY TAXI

Although not advisable for security reasons, supporters who travel to the Stadium by taxi must ensure they are dropped off outside gate EST 3, to avoid any potential problems.

STADIO DELLE ALPI (Stadium of the Alps)

A specific section of the Stadium has been reserved for Liverpool Supporters, where there will be refreshment facilities.

Liverpool Supporters are allowed to enter the Stadium only through gates EST 3

A searching operation will take place inside the gates by the Police. As this may slow the entry procedure into the stadium it is advisable to arrive early at the stadium. We also appeal for your patience at this time.

Supporters are not allowed to take into the Stadium any of the following items: Glasses, Bottles, Cans, Aerosols, C.S. Gas, Fireworks, Tools, Coins, Umbrellas, large Buckles, Knives and any object that may cause trouble during the Match.

Poles of flags are allowed only if they are plastic, hollow and flexible.

At the end of the match Liverpool Supporters will be asked to wait in their sector as long as necessary for security reasons. Thiscould be up to 1 hour. Public Buses will be waiting in the Parking lot.

Useful Telephone Emergency Numbers:
State Police ? Emergency 113
First Aid - 118

I like that story about the United fan who got his engraved lighter back after it had been confiscated.

What about small cameras and mobile phones?

Don't particularly want my phone taken off me.

Thanks for posting that Phil.  Good that free buses are provided and that they have set aside facilities where we can meet inside the stadium.  Its very useful information and I'm very grateful to you for posting that.

Don't thank the messenger, thank the Italian Police. Probably best to wait till you get back to do that though.

Strangely, after reading this, I would feel a bit more safer if I was going. I'm not though.

Dont think ill be getting on them busses heard the horror stories from Roma in 2001 where they picked you up at a similar time and some didnt get into the ground till after kick off. thats 4 hours sat on a sweaty coach and they were bricked on the way to the ground. will be going to ground by taxi, reckon it will be the safer option.

Well, nevertheless it was kind of you to pass the message on.  Actually, it does  make me feel safer in that they are providing special buses so we don't have to overcrowd public transport and irritate people coming home from a day's work.  I appreciate that the alternative view is that those buses will become targets for people who wish to be silly without damaging "their own".  We shall see.

they know where we are meeting now yes.
So do the police
So do the 3,600 and there's no way they will attack such a large number of fans + police.

I wouldnt take your hire car and leave it by the busses in the segregated area, you know it will get damaged on the way out afterwards, so more money wasted, I would park it somewhere safe and bus it

So we're definitley taking 3600 then? I wouldn't be surprised if only half that many go.

yeah maybe not, I have no idea in fact
but you know what I meant, there's gonna be loads of us at the meeting point + police. Even if there's "only" 1000, can you imagine the Juventus Ultras attacking 1,000 Liverpool fans, huddled in the same place and surrounded by anti riot police ?
personally I can't...

I'm not so sure mate.

the buses are a fair point, I agree with you.
Although it's some trouble to be expected at any away game, especially in Italy (cf Roma 2001), and will also happen if you travel with official travel agencies.

anyway to sum up my thoughts, great news this meeting place and those buses.

Cameras and phones are the only safe things I would say, but I would take a throwaway camera rather than my digi.
Don't take the hotel key out with you.
Don't take any coins.
Daytrippers find somewhere to leave yer house keys - airport baggage or summut.
Sounds like this is pretty well co-ordinated by the police, well-in to them and very re-assuring for those that still had doubts.
I had serious doubts in the beginning but a huge shortage of cash put a stop to my plans for this one anyway.
If I was going however, I would feel more re-assured after reading this announcement.

I'd go against you on that and wouldn't take a throw away camera...had to throw mine away before entering the ground in Marseilles, was pretty pissed off  >:(
I'd think cameras and phones are safe, they just know you won't use something so expensive as a missile, however I can't be sure and wouldn't be surprised if you had to give them your batteries...
