Rhi's Carra's Career in Banners.

This weekend, Jamie Carragher brings to a close a career which has spanned three decades and amassed over 700 appearances. A career which saw him win honours ranging from the FA Youth Cup all the way through to the Champion’s League, with a handful of League Cups, FA Cups, UEFA Cup, European Super Cups and Community Shields to augment the CV of a true footballing legend. The cliché of the “one club man” does a disservice to the level at which Carragher has performed over the years. An oft-used quote sees Carragher suggest he’d have left Liverpool if he wasn’t playing, but you’d be a fool to take it as fact. His commitment to Liverpool Football Club has been unwavering, and he was pivotal in some of the best sides and best team performances of my lifetime. He was also a stalwart, an undeserved scapegoat, and an upholder of “the Liverpool way” during the hard times. As a player, he may have had faults. But as the embodiment of the scouse heart of Liverpool Football Club, you could ask for nothing more.

This is not to be a traditional tribute to the man, though. This will be a tribute to his effect on us. On me. On the Kop.

The first banner I ever made was a tribute to Jamie Carragher. It was terrible - but it’s the thought that counts, right? And Jamie has inspired so many of the best banners over the years, that I felt it necessary to collate just a few, as a measure of how revered he is among our supporters.

Will there ever again be a player immortalised in so many banners? They’ll be hard pushed. I’d wager that JC is second only to the King in sheer number of red and white sheet tributes. That’s as big a complement as the Anfield faithful can ever pay.
