Preview: Wigan Athletic v Liverpool. Saturday 2nd March 2013

This game has got everything needed to be one that really gets under our skin. It's a Saturday tea time kick off against Wigan and it's on ESPN so those who don't make the short journey to 1981 will get the pleasure of listening to John Champion spouting his 'pearls of wisdom' and Chris Waddle struggling to speak the native language. Also, Wigan Athletic are becoming a bit of a pain in the jacksie for Liverpool, the Reds have only been victorious in one of the last six Premier League meetings between the two sides having won seven of the previous nine. Having said that, they are still Wigan and are a bottom five team in the league, so this is a match that Liverpool should be looking to take all three points from.

One stat that does bode well for Liverpool is that Wigan have conceded in all of their 13 home games in the Premier League so far this season. Having said that, they notoriously remember how to play football come March, so they shouldn't be taken too lightly. If truth be told, I doubt this will be a classic match but it's one that Liverpool need to win to keep in touch with those above them.

Team News:

Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho are available again after sitting out the Zenit game as both were cup tied, however there are serious doubts over the fitness of Sturridge. Martin Skrtel has overcome a knee problem but is unlikely to break the current centre-back partnership of Daniel Agger and Jamie Carragher, despite the mistake last Thursday by the latter of the two.
